Frequently Asked Questions

Toolbar FAQ

> Can I control the privacy of what I Snip?
Absolutely. As a Snipi User, you have complete control over which items and lists you share. When you start a new list you will be able to select whether or not it will be Public, Private or for Snipi Friends Only. You can change the status of any list at any time by clicking on the "Edit" button.

You choose which items are sent to Facebook or WordPress and only you choose which items are "tweeted". Your items only appear in the Snipi iPhone app when you have logged in.

Read more about List Privacy here.
> Are you installing something on my computer?
No. The Snipi toolbar is simply a Firefox add-on. Software is not installed on your computer, nothing is running in the background, and the Snipi Toolbar is not bundled with any other applications.

When the Snipi toolbar is closed, it is completely shut off and is not processing, sending or receiving any information other than a regular check to make sure it is the latest version of the toolbar.
> How do I get the toolbar?
Hit "Keep it on the download" in the upper right hand corner of the homepage. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the "Download Snipi Toolbar" button. You may be prompted by the following message: Firefox prevented this site (www.snipi.com) from asking you to install software on your computer. If you see this press "Allow" then "Install Now." You must restart Firefox.
> Why can't I see my toolbar?
Look for the Snipi logo in the bottom right corner of your Firefox browser and click on it.

If you can't see the Snipi logo in the bottom right of your Firefox browser, go to View (in the Firefox main menu) and select the "Status Bar" option. Once this is checked you will be able to see the Snipi logo in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
> How can I close/minimize the toolbar?
Click on the Snipi logo in the bottom right hand corner.
> Where should I be Snipping items from?
Snipi allows you to drag and drop products, photos and videos from almost anywhere. Here are some rules of thumb to follow: Products should always be snipped from the product detail pages. Every retailer will have one dedicated page for each product. This is the page that shows all the details for that one product. This is where you should snip your products from. This allows us to best guess the title and price while providing you a precise link back to the product.

Photos can be snipped in from almost anywhere. Just be sure you're snipping the largest, highest quality version of the photo. Pulling in a thumbnail (or small preview) of the image is not going to serve you well and will end up tiny or pixilated on Snipi.com, your iPhone or wherever else you choose to view it later.

Videos can currently be snipped from YouTube and Vimeo only. When you visit YouTube.com, Vimeo.com or any website that has either of these types of videos displayed on them, you will see a Snipi star logo to the left of it. Just drag this star into anyone of your video lists.
> I am unable to drag and drop photos to the toolbar on some sites. What is going on?!
Unfortunately, some sites use Flash or other technologies to showcase their products that does not play nice with Snipi. In those cases, you may be able to find another photo on the page that represents what you're trying to drag into the toolbar although, we know it's a bummer. We are working to ameliorate the issue.
> Why is my pic so small or pixilated?
You need to be sure you are snipping a product or photo from the main page of that product or photo. Do not snip items from a long list of small images (like a product catalog or album view).
> How do I snip a video?
Please note that currently, users can only add videos from You Tube or Vimeo.

Look for the Snipi logo to the left of the video and drag that down into the toolbar.

If you don't see the Snipi logo (and this is a You Tube or Vimeo video), make sure that the toolbar is up and refresh the page or replay the video. The logo will reappear.
> How do I delete an item?
From the site: Select the item you want to delete and click the "Edit" button. Then click on "Delete this item" marked in red. From the toolbar: simply click on the item and drag it out of the list (the opposite of dragging it in).
> How do I delete a list?
Log in to the Snipi website. Go to the "My Stuff" page. Then, click on the "Lists" tab. Select the list you want to delete by clicking on the title of the list (highlighted in blue). Click on the "Edit button." Then, click on "Delete this list."

From the Snipi Toolbar, make sure you have the list you want to delete in view. Click "List Options" and select "Delete List".
> How do I tweet an item?
To tweet an item not in the toolbar, simply drag the item into the toolbar and the Item Details drawer will automatically open. Here you can log in to your Twitter account (if you haven't already) and a text box to type in your tweet will be available. Since we add a URL to your tweet that lets people see what you're talking about, we show you how many remaining characters you have after the short URL is included.

If you want to tweet about an item that is currently in the toolbar, select the item and click on the "Open Details" button.
> How do I send an item to Facebook or Wordpress?
When you start a New List in the toolbar you will be prompted to choose the Privacy/Application settings. You can select Facebook and/or WordPress. The toolbar will prompt you if you have not yet added the Facebook application or the WordPress plugin. Please follow the instructions provided.

Optionally, you can choose to send an individual item (rather than every item in a list) to Facebook or WordPress. When you pull in a new item (will not work for existing items), the Item Details Drawer will open automatically. Here you'll see the Facebook and WordPress logos. You can select or deselect either of these on the fly.
> Why aren't photos I've sent from the Snipi Toolbar to Facebook showing up in the News Feed?
Facebook has ever changing policies on what can be published and what cannot. For the most part, as soon as you've added the Snipi for Facebook application and authorized Snipi to upload content from the Toolbar to Facebook, you wont need to do anything else. In some cases however, you may need to go into the album that Snipi has automatically created for you (called: Photos from the Snipi Toolbar), click edit, and you will see a "Publish" notice from Facebook. All you have to do is select Publish and also select, "remember this selection for this album".
> Why aren't the price comparisons accurate?
Snipi does its best to guess the title of your product and to find relevant price comparison info. This feature will become more accurate over time. The more you use it, the smarter it gets.
> Can I share with anyone? Or can I only share with Snipi friends?
You are in control as a Snipi user. Just click on the "Share List" icon in the toolbar to select which Friends with whom you want to share. Or click on the "+Add Contact" and add additional e-mail addresses.

From the site, you can click on Share and use a comprehensive list of social tools or "old fashioned" email to share.
> What do I do if the Snipi Toolbar stops freezes up or does not respond?
Go with old faithful. Restart Firefox. Windows users should close all Firefox windows and relaunch. Mac users should be sure they "quit" Firefox entirely and reopen (not just minimize to the dock).
